Machine Disk Drive Mechanical Interface

The mechanical interface between a disk drive assembly 10 and a machine base 12 includes only a single screw 14, so that the assembly 10 may be quickly disassociated with respect to the base 12 for servicing.

The assembly 10 comprises a disk drive unit 16 having a magnetic disk 18 therein which is driven from a drive pulley 20. The unit 16 is fixed with respect to a drive motor 22, and the output pulley 24 of motor 22 drives pulley 20 and disk 18 through a belt 26.

Assembly 10 includes a frame 28 having a U-shaped bracket 30 fixed to it on the bottom and an arm 32 fixed to it on its top.

32.

A standard 38 is fixed to base 12, and screw 14 extends through threaded opening 40 in standard 38 for fixing assembly 10 with respect to base 12. A pair of bolts 42 are received in corresponding slots 44 formed in standard 38, and a fixed upper guide bracket 46 has a pair of lugs 46a and 46b which extend into corresponding openings 28a and 28h in frame 28, for holding frame 28 and unit 16 in proper position.

It is desirable that the upper surface of unit 16 be flush with the upper machine surface 48, and bolts 42 are therefore made with eccentric parts 42a and 42b.
