In another embodiment the photosensor, the communication line and the receiver are substituted by a moving photosensitive surface, for example, of a copying machine, for producing a copy of the original on a local basis.

A variety of scanner systems can be devised, all having the common feature of making use of a collimated light source, for example, a laser, with the primary objective of scanning information by successive light scans. Prior scanners include wedge scanners, multifacet scanners, helical scanners, etc.

Fig. 2 illustrates a scanning arrangement making use of a spinning prism formed in a predetermined shape, to produce a straight line scan with constant velocity. The prism comprises a sloping surface formed on the face thereof and extending from a low portion to a stepped portion. The laser beam is arranged parallel to and slightly off the axis of rotation of the prism. The slope of the prism is such that at the low portion (zero degree of rotation) of the prism, the laser beam passes straight through. At other angles of rotation, the laser beam is deviated from its original direction to a lesser or greater extent, depending upon the slope of the prism surface.
