Abstract

A simplified function generator is provided for generating a voltage that is an inverse function of the position of the wiper for a linear potentiometer. This voltage can be used for driving a DC motor, and providing substantially constant tangential velocity of a portion of a circular member adjacent to a position on the potentiometer.

Function Generator

A simplified function generator is provided for generating a voltage that is an inverse function of the position of the wiper for a linear potentiometer. This voltage can be used for driving a DC motor, and providing substantially constant tangential velocity of a portion of a circular member adjacent to a position on the potentiometer.

Voltages V1, V2, and V3 appear along lines 1, 2 and 3, respectively, with reference to high-input impedance and high open-loop gain operational amplifier
4. A potentiometer, which is represented by R2 and R3, is positioned along a radius of, and parallel to, circular member 5. The wiped portion of the potentiometer is represented by R3, while the unwiped portion of the potentiometer is represented by R2. With the resistance of R2 known, a sufficient resistance R1 is added for V2 to be an inverse function of the radius of circular member 5.
