Time Shared Conductor

A device with interrelated data handling junctions provided by circuit elements carried by a plurality of modules can reduce the required number of conductors interconnecting modules, by having nonconcurrent functions time share a single conductor.

An example of such a time shared conductor is shown in Fig. 1 wherein conductor 10 is shared by three functions. Upon the occurrence of gate event 1 pulse, as shown on Fig. 2, the CRC bytes on the data field are checked, and upon failure to sense a correct result the CRC generator 5 on module 2 forces a CRC error in sense register 6 on module 1 via conductor 10. At the time indicated by gate event 2, the detection of a missing record at 7 on module 3 forces a CRC error in sense register 6 on module 1 via conductor 10. At the time indicated by gate event 3, an identifier label mismatch sensed at 8 on module 1 forces a resync using circuitry 9 on module 3 via conductor 10. Accordingly, a single line is time shared to implement three separate functions.
