Abstract

A stray-light shield for a scanning lens system incorporates a flexible shield bonded to a rigid cone-shaped shield, which is in turn attached to the lens barrel of a scanning lens system. The rigid cone-shaped shield allows all light transmitted from an object plane to be passed through the scanning lens system to an image plane, while acting in conjunction with the flexible shield to prevent stray light in the ambience of the device from passing through the lens opening to the image plane.

Stray Light Shield

A stray-light shield for a scanning lens system incorporates a flexible shield bonded to a rigid cone-shaped shield, which is in turn attached to the lens barrel of a scanning lens system. The rigid cone-shaped shield allows all light transmitted from an object plane to be passed through the scanning lens system to an image plane, while acting in conjunction with the flexible shield to prevent stray light in the ambience of the device from passing through the lens opening to the image plane.

Scanning lens 11 is mounted for reciprocal motion in the direction of arrow 13 within opening 15 and directs light rays 17 from an object plane, not shown, to an image plane, not shown. In order to prevent stray light from passing through the opening 15, a truncated cone-shaped shield 19 is secured to the upper surface of the lens barrel of lens 11, and a flexible shield 21 is secured to the cone-shaped shield 19. The cone-shaped shield 19 allows all light rays 17 emanating from the object plane to pass through the lens 11 without interference. The flexible shield 21 can be made of a plastic material such as polyurethane and is attached to the left and right ends of the casing 23, as well as to the cone-shaped shield 19.
