Brush Cleaning Apparatus

A brush cleaning apparatus for an electrophotographic system is shown.

The cleaning brush 1 is mounted close to the surface of a photoconductor drum 2 and the brush is rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of drum 2, so that the brush fibers remove toner from the surface of the photoconductor. A wedge member 3 is mounted close to the photoconductor surface, with one edge of wedge member 3 extending near the area of the photoconductor normally impacted by cleaning brush 1.

The shape of wedge number 3 causes the brush fibers to be compressed gradually as they approach the photoconductor surface. The fibers then impact the photoconductor surface with a sweeping motion, which provides effective cleaning and also reduces the tendency of the photoconductor to film.
