Shielded Cable Termination

A shielded cable 2 is terminated using a clamping assembly which provides both strain relief and an extended contact surface area, for effective grounding to enhance EMC characteristics.

As seen in the sectional elevation of Fig. 2, a nickel plated angle member 3 is secured to a nickel plated machine base wall surface 4. The shielded cable end portion is presented with the terminal part of the end of the underlying shielding 6 turned back over the end of the surrounding insulation 7. The metal clamp 8 compressively retains the cable 2 against angle member 3, with the turned back shielding 6 in intimate contact with both clamp 8 and angle member 3. Accordingly, an extended contact surface is provided to afford a conductive path between machine base 4 and cable shielding 6 while clamping signal wires 9, that form the cable 2, to effect strain relief.
