Abstract

A right-angle jack 11 in combination with a right-angle plug 13 form the basis of a loop-cabling system. Mating jack 15 and recessed plug 17 are mounted in the bottom of a terminal 21 such as a keyboard or display, clearance for jack 11 and plug 13 being provided by feet 19. The underside location and the right-angle configuration of jack 11 and plug 13, permits the loop cable to lay in any direction from the terminal while preventing accidental disconnect. Jack 11 and plug 13 also can be mated with each other to advantageously restore loop continuity, in the event of failure of circuits within a terminal 21 or physical removal of a terminal 21 from the loop communication system.

Jack 11 provides short-circuit protection for signal drivers driving cable 23 inasmuch as the signal contact is recessed. Signal flow must be clockwise in the figure to take advantage of this protection feature.
