This method is particularly useful for making target assemblies of the type used in deformographic type display systems.

A suitable process for forming the mica mounting structure 10 is described in U.S. Patent 3,445,707.

Next, a suitable silicone polymer, preferably one such as the DOW CORNING Corp. product known as R-63-493, is provided in the uncured state which consists of a two part viscous liquid system including a catalyst and base. The catalyst is mixed with the base in the ratio of from 2.0 parts to 10.0 parts of the catalyst to 100 parts of the base. In addition, a diluent, preferably toluene, is added to the mixture in a ratio of 0.5 part diluent to 1.0 part of the catalyst/base mixture.

A portion of this solution, i.e., toluene/catalyst/base, is poured onto the surface of the mica and flowed over the entire surface so as to coat the entire area. The coated assembly is then positioned vertically so that a portion of the coating drains for approximately one hour. The assembly is then placed horizontally, so as to attain a uniform distribution of the residual coating solution.

Next, the polymer is temperature cured, preferably by placing the coated assembly in an oven at room temperature. The temperature is then elevated at 2 degrees C per minute up to 150 degrees C, where it remains for approximately one hour.
