Abstract

This dual-cutoff scroll provides flow in two opposite directions utilizing a single scroll, thereby providing parallel cooling. The dual-cutoff scroll 10 consists of two separate cutoffs 16 and 18, as shown in the figure. This arrangement results in improved performance due to decreased impedance to air flow. The noise level is also reduced, since the exiting air velocity is less.

This dual-cutoff scroll provides flow in two opposite directions utilizing a single scroll, thereby providing parallel cooling. The dual-cutoff scroll 10 consists of two separate cutoffs 16 and 18, as shown in the figure. This arrangement results in improved performance due to decreased impedance to air flow. The noise level is also reduced, since the exiting air velocity is less.

Referring to the figure, the blower wheel 12 causes air to exit at opening 14 on one side of the scroll, as well as causing air to exit from the opening 15 on the opposite side of the blower. It should be noted that exit 15 faces in the opposite direction to exist opening 14. The cutoffs 16,18 are arranged with respect to their respective openings 14,15 to give the best performance. Thus, the usual manifold for directing air in opposite directions is eliminated.
