Roll Fuser Assembly

The backup roll of a roll fuser apparatus is specially contoured to prevent paper from sticking to the hot roll.

Backup roll 11 of a roll fusing apparatus is contoured with a localized small radius or step 13, to enhance the tendency of paper sheets 15 to release from the surface of compliant hot roll 17. The leading edge of sheet 15 is synchronized with respect to the rotational position of backup roll 11, so that radius 13 lies adjacent the leading edge of each sheet 15. Peeler bars 19 and 21 prevent the thusly separated leading edge of sheet 15 from returning to the surface of hot roll 17 and backup roll 11, respectively.
