Sheet Feed Device

This sheet feed device includes two picker rolls resting on the top of a sheet stack to advance the uppermost sheet to a sheet handling mechanism, each of the picker rolls being driven from a common drive source but being mounted in independently pivoting picker trucks.

The uppermost sheet 11 of a stack of sheets resting on table 12 is forwarded in the direction of arrow 13 to a sheet handling mechanism, not shown, upon rotation of picker rolls 15 and 17. Each of the picker rolls 15 and 17 are driven from input shaft 19 by belts 21 and 23, respectively. Picker roll 15 is mounted on truck 25 which pivots about shaft 19, thereby allowing the picker roll 15 to be lowered upon the stack of sheets as the sheets are depleted from the table 12. In a similar manner, picker roll 17 is mounted in truck 27. Trucks 25 and 27 independently pivot about shaft 19, thereby insuring that each picker roll rests upon the topmost sheet 11.

Picker roll 17 can be barrel shaped or offset to its dash line position to control feed direction, as required. The two picker rolls thus furnish a mechanical couple to sheet 11 to control its feed direction.
