Flexi Flat Cable Space Transformer for Multipin Systems

The structure described is used to provide electrical continuity between contact points which are positioned on close center-line spaces to a larger array, which enables conventional contact mechanisms to be used.

The basic element of the structure, Fig. 1, is a flexi-flat cable which contains a group of conductors and provides the fanning out of center-line spaces. The wire conductors protrude beyond the insulating material of the cable and are inserted into the bottom guide plate. The top end of the cable terminates into a conventional connector assembly.

The structure can also provide AC environment by using alternate wires as signal and ground conductors, (Fig. 2). The ceramic decoupling capacitors 3 are embedded between the two insulation layers, and its electrodes are soldered to the respective ground and signal lines.
