Abstract

This is a connector actuator device for moving a module member relative to a base connector carrier member, for simultaneously mating an area array of pin type electrical connectors into engagement with bifurcated spring-type connectors in the base carrier member. The connector actuator is manually operated, and has large force capability for simultaneously mating a plurality of pin connectors with spring-type connectors.

Connector Actuator Device

This is a connector actuator device for moving a module member relative to a base connector carrier member, for simultaneously mating an area array of pin type electrical connectors into engagement with bifurcated spring-type connectors in the base carrier member. The connector actuator is manually operated, and has large force capability for simultaneously mating a plurality of pin connectors with spring-type connectors.

The connector actuator device comprises a drive block 10 provided with a transverse rectangular hole or slot 11, in which slides a square block 12 having a central hole 13 for receiving a shaft 14 which has an eccentric cam portion 14a. A canted slide plate 15 is adapted to fit into a recess 16 in the lower portion of the drive block 10. The eccentric cam portion 14a of shaft 14 has a pivotal bearing in a hole 17 in the slide plate 15. The drive block 10 is connected to the module 18 by the pins 19. The base member 20 is connected with the slide plate 15 by the pins 21. The base member 20 has a plurality of recesses 22, each equipped with a bifurcated spring-type connector element 23. The module 18 includes a variety of electronic components arranged for electrical connection with external circuits via an area array of pins 24, protruding from the bottom of the module 18. This provides a no-insertion force type of electrical connection.
