This adapter provides a continuous floating support beneath a beam target area and necessary clearance for Al(2)O(3) powder release after binder evaporation.

The slide mechanism 1 is similar to a drafting board slide concept which is mounted on the X-Y programmed table 6. Slide 1 moves only in the X-X direction, slides beneath the green sheet 2 providing continuous support and has its motion controlled by the beam housing assembly 3. The driving force and motion is maintained by two parallel guide strips 4 attached to the slide 1, which straddle the yoke 5 containing the beam source. Every time the X-Y table 6 is programmed in the X-X direction, the slide moves accordingly. The guide drive strips 4 are assembled in such a manner that if interference does occur, they will automatically release themselves.
