Conference Classroom Desk Table Design for Multiple Arrangement

A system of table-desk design is described which will give greater flexibility of planning, more utilization of viable architecture space, and a cost reduction in table-desk inventory storage and maintenance.

Referring to Fig. 1, the concept is basically a work surface system using a basic table-desk unit 1 along with a connecting table slab 2. The table-desk unit 1 is a simple, economical structure. It is made up of a work surface slab, three side slabs, and four steel legs 4. The side slabs 3 on the table-desk unit 1 have a metal strip 5 inserted at the top edge. This metal strip functions as a connecting device when table slab 2 is inserted between two table units. When the table is used alone, the metal strip 5 provides a design feature detail for the unit.

The four connecting slabs 2 (Fig. 2) are made of the same materials as the table-desk work slab. Each connecting slab 2 has a plastic channel, not shown, inserted flush at both ends on the underside of the slab. This channel fits over metal strip 5 to provide a positive connection between slab 2 and the tables 1. The channel insert is made up of nylon or similar soft, durable material.

The table-desk unit 1 can be used individually where smaller work areas are required. In classrooms or large installations, proper selection of connecting slabs 2 enable more efficient use of available space. Also greater flexibility is realized over conventiona...
