There is described herein a mechanism, a control circuit for the mechanism and a program for enabling the generation of color output with a black and white cathode-ray tube (CRT) plotter.

Fig. 1 is an exploded view of the mechanism. The essential parts are a microswitch 1 to sense the position of the film camera shutter 2, and a filter wheel 3 which is indexed by the control circuit described in Fig. 2. The actuators for the filter wheel are a stepping motor 4 and switch wafers 5. Another microswitch 6 is mounted on the paper shutter.

In Fig. 2 there is shown a control circuit for the mechanism shown in Fig. 1. This control circuit is applicable where the color wheel 3 is rotated by a stepping motor 4, which also turns the rotary switch 5. With the circuit shown in Fig. 2, color wheel 3 can now be set to the "HOME" position by pressing "RESET" push button switch and by including a normally open microswitch as shown in the control circuit of Fig. 3, the color wheel 3 with the controller can be reset.

There follows herein a computer program which actuates the shutter mechanism of the CRT plotter. Each time the shutter is closed to the camera, color wheel 3 indexes one step. In this manner, by actuating the film or paper selection shutter, any color on the color wheel can be selected. There follows an example of a subroutine for the shutter control.
