Drafting Board Security Cover

A locking device for flexible drafting board covers serves as a deterrent to unauthorized exposure of work in process on a drafting table.

A drafting board 1 is fitted with two flexible opaque covers 2, 3 of the conventional type, so that they may be placed in their respective covering positions orthogonal to one another. A pair of slotted corner sockets 4 are each mounted on diagonally opposite corners of the drafting board. Each cover as it unrolled across the board has one end inserted into its respective corner socket 4, as shown. Thereafter, a lock plate 5 having a depending tongue 6 is inserted between L-shaped lock hasp 7, secured to the drafting board 1 and pencil tray 8.

The tongue 6 is of sufficient length to extend below the hasp 7 and has hole 9 therein in which may be placed padlock 10. The locking plate 5 also has affixed to the underside thereof a depending serpentine member 11, which maintains the plate astride the lock hasp 7, and also prevents the removal of dowel 12 for the uppermost cover 3.
