Abstract

The housing of an electrical unit consists of a frame made up of hollow sections 1. The wall elements, not shown, are attached to hollow sections 1. The latter do not only serve as supporting means for the housing but are simultaneously designed as bus bars with power and signal lines. Adapters 2, which are connected to a device 3, such as a switch, a sensor or a motor, can be plugged into the bus bars at any point. For cooling the unit, a coolant is led through hollow sections 1.

Frame Bus System

The housing of an electrical unit consists of a frame made up of hollow sections 1. The wall elements, not shown, are attached to hollow sections 1. The latter do not only serve as supporting means for the housing but are simultaneously designed as bus bars with power and signal lines. Adapters 2, which are connected to a device 3, such as a switch, a sensor or a motor, can be plugged into the bus bars at any point. For cooling the unit, a coolant is led through hollow sections 1.

The operation of the devices is monitored by central supervisor 4. An adapter 2 and thus an associated device 3, is selected through the respective address transmitted from the central supervisor 4 via a first signal line, e.g., a synchronization line. Via a second signal line, the selected device 3 receives a control signal from adapter 2, and device 3 communicates its set state to the central supervisor 4 via a third signal line. Address, control and response signals can also be multiplexed over one single-signal line.
