Module Holder and Actuator

This is a module holder and actuator for connecting modules, which require a wiping action against associated connectors on a plane surface of a mating member.

Module holder and actuator 10 comprises a generally rectangular frame 15 which includes upstanding side walls 19 and 20, and end walls 21 and 22 embracing a predetermined area 16A of a circuit board 16. Circuit board 16 has contacts 17 thereon of the type illustrated in United States patent 3,676,832. Upstanding side walls 19 and 20 form rails or sideways for contact activation slide 25. End wall 22 includes a recessed portion 22A, which is of width sufficient to receive cam follower 28 associated with slide 25.

Extending outwardly from either sides of recess 22A are hinge pins 51 and 52, serving as part of the pivot 50 associated with module cover or module locking and slide actuator member 45. Scalloped portion 23A and 23B underlies each of the pins 51 and 52, to permit easy entry thereinto of the hooks or hinges 50A and 50B associated with cover 45.

Contact activation slide 25 is dimensioned for sliding relation with respect to frame 15 and receives pins 26 of an encapsulated module 27. Slide 25 includes a plurality of spaced apart apertures 26A which are adapted to permit the passage of pins 26 therethrough.

Cover 45 is superimposed with respect to slide 25 and frame 15. Hinges 50A and 50B are placed in engagement with hinge pins 51 and 52. Cam follower 28 comprises a laterally extending...
