Accelerometer Pen

Housing 10 accommodates conventional ball-point pen 11 and has two accelerometers 12 to measure acceleration in two corresponding coordinate directions, when pen 11 is used for writing.

Pen 11 is held by clips 13. Pressure sensor 14 detects when pen 11 is pressed against paper. Cable 15 conducts outputs from accelerometers 12 and sensor 14.

The analog outputs from accelerometers 12 represent patterns of writing using pen 11. For verifying signatures, patter s from accelerometers 12 are compared with previously recorded patterns. The patterns may be recorded and compared in analog form, but preferably the analog signals are passed through an analog-to-digital converter before recording the patterns, or before comparison with previously recorded patterns.
