Isolated Antenna

An antenna is isolated from all extraneous radio frequency (RF) signals other than those from a desired azimuth. 0pen field conditions may be approximated in small laboratory spaces, without using complex electronic versions of anechoic chambers. Measurement of undesired RF radiation from electronic equipment is simplified.

In Fig. 1, an antenna is mounted in a hood constructed of a nylon honeycomb, sandwiched between RF reflective aluminum sheets and lined with RF absorptive ferrite tiles. Undesired ambient background RF signals are shielded from the antenna by the aluminum. RF signals from the source reach the antenna in a direct path only, the ferrite tiles absorbing otherwise reflected signals which would cause undesirable multipath aberrations. An adjustable support (constructed from nonreflective materials, such as linen-reinforced phenolic), for example the one shown with the antenna of Fig. 2, may be provided to allow changes in antenna height or polarization. These antennas operate in the range of 30 MHz to 1,000 MHz.
