Read/Write Head Test

A test coil, such as a wire of one-half turn or more, is electromagnetically linked with the read/write coil of a magnetic head. The test coil may be mounted to the head on a permanent or removable basis.

In operation, the test signal is applied to the test coil and by appropriate sensing means, the induced output signal on the read/write coil(s) is sensed. As a result, the read/write head is capable of being tested for electrical and/or magnetic circuit continuity independent of, i.e., without the use of, the associated drum or other type recording surface.
