Abstract

A read/write head 10 is mounted to a head suspension 12, which in turn is attached to a platform suspension 14. Two air bearing surfaces are provided by the platform 16 and the head 10. The larger air bearing surface of the platform 16 provides a relatively large spacing between the platform and a moving magnetic medium. The head suspension 12 attains a very close spacing between the magnetic transducing gap and the medium. The platforms may be of the rigid or of the flying type.
