Abstract

This data demodulation arrangement is capable of detecting, by using integration techniques, data from readback signals that are obtained from magnetic record carriers employing, for example, NRZ or NRZI data representation schemes. Alternately cycled integrators 11, 12 alternately and successively drive first and second demodulator output circuits 13, 14 to supply data signals to first and second detecting latches 15, 16, respectively, to convert received periodic digital signals to detected timed data signals.

This data demodulation arrangement is capable of detecting, by using integration techniques, data from readback signals that are obtained from magnetic record carriers employing, for example, NRZ or NRZI data representation schemes. Alternately cycled integrators 11, 12 alternately and successively drive first and second demodulator output circuits 13, 14 to supply data signals to first and second detecting latches 15, 16, respectively, to convert received periodic digital signals to detected timed data signals.

For high frequency operation, the alternately cycled integrators are squelched in successive alternate time periods after a short predetermined squelch delay, to assure reliable sampling of the integrated signal amplitudes. A common data output circuit 17 converts the detected timed data signals to NRZ, NRZI, or other suitable synchronized signal formats. Circuit 18 is provided to detect phase errors or phase shifts.
