Abstract

The system as schematically depicted operates as follows: Container 1 is moved on or off the special flat car 5 by a special automatic terminal actuator, in the direction indicated by arrows 2. Special roller type conveyors 3 are mounted in the bed of rail car 5, to allow container 1 to move from a terminal siding onto or off of rail car 5.

Locking Containers on Flat Rail Cars or Trucks

The system as schematically depicted operates as follows: Container 1 is moved on or off the special flat car 5 by a special automatic terminal actuator, in the direction indicated by arrows 2. Special roller type conveyors 3 are mounted in the bed of rail car 5, to allow container 1 to move from a terminal siding onto or off of rail car 5.

After container 1 is positioned on rail car 5, magnets 4 are actuated electrically from a control system, not shown, to provide the locking force necessary to hold container 1 in place. In case of electrical failure, magnets 4 will remain in a locked position thereby effectuating a fail-safe locking system.
