Abstract

An elevating paper supply drawer is freely slidable to an open position to facilitate loading of paper thereon and when pushed to its closed position within a machine environment, is operable to elevate a paper stack to a sheet feeding position. The drawer includes interlocks which prevent the drawer from being opened when the elevatable portion is in its uppermost position, and to prevent the elevatable portion from being vertically movable when the drawer is in its open position.

Elevating Paper Supply Drawer

An elevating paper supply drawer is freely slidable to an open position to facilitate loading of paper thereon and when pushed to its closed position within a machine environment, is operable to elevate a paper stack to a sheet feeding position. The drawer includes interlocks which prevent the drawer from being opened when the elevatable portion is in its uppermost position, and to prevent the elevatable portion from being vertically movable when the drawer is in its open position.

The drawer comprises an open top rectangular box structure with an internal elevatable paper table 11. The drawer structure is supported on support rails 13 enabling it to be moved in the direction of arrows 15. When the drawer is in its closed position, reversible motor 17 drives shaft 19 through rotary coupler 21, thereby winding belts 23 about the shaft. The opposite ends of the belts are secured to paper table 11, thereby causing the paper table to elevate with respect to the remainder of the structure. Wire guide 25 is fixedly secured to the structure and supports paper table 11 through rollers 27, to maintain the paper table level as it is elevated.

A paper guide 29 extends through slot 31 in the paper table 11 and is positionable by an operator when the paper drawer is in its open position, against the edge of a sheet pile resting on the paper table 11. When the drawer is pulled to its open position for loading, latch surface 33 is engaged by latch...
