Abstract

The apparatus of the drawing positions a shaft 5 at a Selected angular position. Shaft 2 is fixed to a plate 3. Plate 3 has members 4 that are moveable a small distance in arcuate slots 5. Springs 6 urge members 4 in a counterclockwise direction. Members 4 have holes 7 that receive pins 8 that are mounted on a rotatable element 9. (Plate 3 and element 9 are separated in the drawing to show pins 8.)

Index Mechanism

The apparatus of the drawing positions a shaft 5 at a Selected angular position. Shaft 2 is fixed to a plate 3. Plate 3 has members 4 that are moveable a small distance in arcuate slots 5. Springs 6 urge members 4 in a counterclockwise direction. Members 4 have holes 7 that receive pins 8 that are mounted on a rotatable element 9. (Plate 3 and element 9 are separated in the drawing to show pins 8.)

Element 9 carries a shaft 10 that is located within shaft 2. Thus, shaft 10 and an arm 11 move directly with element 9 and shaft 2 and an arm 12 move directly with plate 3 and move with element 9, within the limits established by the travel of members 4 in slots 5. A cam 14 mounted on a shaft 15 cooperates with pins 17 mounted on element 9 to rotate element 9 and shaft 10. Shaft 15 also drives a cam 18 and operates a lock structure 20.

Structure 20 is drawn on a larger scale than the other components of the apparatus. It includes a stationary part 21, a part 22 that slides vertically on part 21, and a part 24 that slides horizontally on part 22. part 22 has a cam follower 25 that rides on cam 18, and in the view of the drawing part 22 is in its uppermost position and is stopped against stationary part 21. Part 24 carries a roller 26, and as follower 25 is lifted by cam 18, roller 26 on part 24 and reference surface 27 on part 22 enter a notch 28 and part 22 stops its rise against stationary part
21.
