Abstract

In guiding and transporting a metal-coated record carrier such as a metal-coated paper web 10, a transport roller 31 is provided with sprocket pins 32 which engage in the marginal perforations of the paper web, and the paper web is kept on the roller by a pressure roller H having a spring biased support lever and a pressure spring 35.

In guiding and transporting a metal-coated record carrier such as a metal- coated paper web 10, a transport roller 31 is provided with sprocket pins 32 which engage in the marginal perforations of the paper web, and the paper web is kept on the roller by a pressure roller H having a spring biased support lever and a pressure spring 35.

The web is so placed on the pins 32 that, at least, one extra perforation occurs between the leading and trailing sprocket pins meshing with the web. This causes the web to bulge away from the transport roller and conform generally to the curvature of guide bars 34. Between the guide bars an electrode head engages the surface of the web for passing current therethrough from a source 11, through selected electrode points 8, for burning away the metal coating at selected points to print thereon.

The space 9 between the transport roller and the web may be filled with an air cushion or with a soft and form-stable foam material such as foam rubber.
