Abstract

This is an arrangement to eliminate detrimental skew in a badge reader by utilizing two reading heads in the badge receiving throat. A first read head 10 is located near the entrance of the badge receiver 11. A second read head 12 is located at a distance of one-half the length of the data bearing area of the badge 13 from the first read head 10.

Badge Reader

This is an arrangement to eliminate detrimental skew in a badge reader by utilizing two reading heads in the badge receiving throat. A first read head 10 is located near the entrance of the badge receiver 11. A second read head 12 is located at a distance of one-half the length of the data bearing area of the badge 13 from the first read head 10.

When the badge 13 is inserted sufficiently far (a distance 14) into the badge receiver 11, a no-skew condition will exist. The second read head 12 will read from the badge 13, position "9", and the first read head 11 will read from the position "4". The two positions are read simultaneously and the information will be placed in logic storage. As the badge 13 is inserted farther, the information from the 8-3, the 7-2, and so on is read until the badge 13 is fully inserted and all the data positions have been read.
