Fluid Immersed Solenoid Arrangement

A low-cost, fluid-immersed solenoid package has a simple, efficient mechanism for doing external work.

When solenoid 1 is energized, plunger 2 motion is transferred out of container 3 by lever 4 which pivots on a pin 5 in the container wall. Lever 4 pivots in a slot 6 in the container wall. The various elements are immersed in fluid 7. Slot 6 is not sealed, thereby permitting the chamber to breath during temperature excursions.

Volume changes do not occur during plunger movement. Chimney 3a prevents fluid loss when container 3 is inclined. This simple, efficient linkage permits small solenoids to be fluid-immersed with resulting long life and quiet operation.
