Scanning Optical System

Scanning mirror 10 and lens 12 simultaneously move beneath a stationary document support glass 11 to scan a line image from the document support glass 11, in synchronism with the peripheral motion of a photosensitive drum 13.

A compensating pair of mirrors 14 and 15 fold the optical path from lens 12 back to stationary mirror 16. These pair of mirrors move in the same direction as mirror 10 and lens 12 at one-half the speed of mirror 10, so as to maintain the focus of lens 12 at the surface of photosensitive drum 13.
