Magnetic recording media are "erased" upon passage thereof through a shielded desk top eraser made up of oriented permanent magnets.

Magnetic media, such as a number of magnetic cards, recording belts, etc., are erased when passed through the opening in the eraser shown in Fig. 1. Two molded half shells making up a cover are bonded together for housing permanent magnets 5 and 6, shielding plates 3 and 4, end clamps 7, and end barrier plates 2 arranged as shown in Fig. 2.
