Paper Bin

This paper bin includes a flexible entry flap whose sheet engaging end is formed into a loop, such that compression of the loop increases the flap's sheet hold-down force as the bin fills.

Fig. 1 shows a side view of a bin 10 which receives and stacks paper sheets 11, as they are fed at high speed into the bin's entry slit 12. Flexible entry flap 13 operates to absorb some of the sheets' kinetic energy, as the flap is deflected upward about pivot 14. This flap is formed of a sheet of flexible material. The flap width, as would be seen in a top view of bin 10, may be equal to, or less than, the bin width.

The end of flap 13 is formed into a loop 15, open to atmosphere at its two ends. As seen in Fig. 2, this loop engages-the bin's top 16 when the bin is somewhat full. Thereafter, continued filling of the bin 10 causes the loop 15 to compress. As a result, the flap's sheet hold-down force increases as the bin fills.
