Type Wheel Cleaner

An effective cleaner for type is a nylon fiber material 12 known as VELCRO*, which has a multitude of projecting hooked fibers 13.

The material 12 may be mounted on a roller 14 as shown in the figure, on an arm 18 supported by a pivot 20 from a bracket 19 and biased by spring 21. The roller 14 is used in place of the usual ink roll in a rotating disc printer. The roller 14 is skewed, and has a slight resistance to rotation, so as to scrub against the type face as the type disc 10 rotates. The scrubbing action of the hook fibers 13 is effective in cleaning residue from the type and disc 10.

The material 12 may also be used as a sheet, being inserted like a cut form and the printer allowed to print in a ripple-print mode; or it can be mounted on a handle and used manually like a toothbrush to scrub the type. * Trademark of American Velcro Inc.
