Abstract

A friction stay arm 10 is mounted on the cover 12 of a printer, as shown in Figs. 1-3, by a slotted plate 14 which provides limited free travel of the cover 12 to the position shown in Fig. 2, when the latch is released. This permits the operator to safely grasp the edge 15 of the cover and use the edge as a handle to raise the cover 12. A friction pad 16 controls sliding action of the slot 18 to permit the cover 12 to be raised to the full open position, as shown in Fig. 3.
