Abstract

In making reproducible amorphous magnetic films for bubble domain devices, it is desirable to work with materials that have a lower magnetization than that of Gd-Co alloys. This is because the magnetization depends very strongly on composition for the range of 4 Pi M(s) values desirable for Approximately 1 Mu bubbles, as shown in the drawing.

In making reproducible amorphous magnetic films for bubble domain devices, it is desirable to work with materials that have a lower magnetization than that of Gd-Co alloys. This is because the magnetization depends very strongly on composition for the range of 4 Pi M(s) values desirable for Approximately 1 Mu bubbles, as shown in the drawing.

It has been found that small amounts of vanadium are very effective in reducing the magnetization of Approximately 80% Ni + 20% Fe film. Therefore, a small amount of V should desirably be added to Gd-Co alloys. Cu has been previously added to targets, but much larger percentages are needed to effect a reasonable reduction in M(s). Large amounts of solute can be expected to lead to increased H(c), as well as precipitation and other complications.
