Abstract

The pickup tool depicted facilitates the handling of articles, such as glass plates, in processes where contamination, such as fingermarks, must be avoided. Removal of a glass plate, laying on a flat surface, such as a conveyor belt, is easily accomplished with the pickup tool due to the wedge shape of the DELRIN* jaws 4 and 6.

Pickup Tool

The pickup tool depicted facilitates the handling of articles, such as glass plates, in processes where contamination, such as fingermarks, must be avoided. Removal of a glass plate, laying on a flat surface, such as a conveyor belt, is easily accomplished with the pickup tool due to the wedge shape of the DELRIN* jaws 4 and 6.

Handle 1 and lever 2 are shaped to provide a convenient hand grip. Fork 3 hold stationary jaws 4. Depressing lever 2 causes spring loaded slide 5 and movable jaw 6 to retract.

The tool is placed over the glass plate 7 with all three jaws resting on the surface from which the glass plate is to be removed. Release of lever 2 will cause spring 8 to act upon jaw 6. The wedge shaped jaws lift the glass plate 7 slightly up and clamp it. * Trademark of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co.
