The low-line current off-chip driver circuit is shown within the enclosed broken line in the drawing. The driver comprises transistor T3 emitter coupled to transistor T4, whose base is biased by reference voltage -V2. The Schottky barrier diode D1 functions as a saturation clamp.

Low Line Current Off Chip Driver

The low-line current off-chip driver circuit is shown within the enclosed broken line in the drawing. The driver comprises transistor T3 emitter coupled to transistor T4, whose base is biased by reference voltage -V2. The Schottky barrier diode D1 functions as a saturation clamp.

The off-chip driver circuit output levels are essentially equal to internal T2L levels. This eliminates the need for level translation at the remote end of the transmission line. Fast transitions are achieved at the output of the driver, since T4 is an active driver.
