Adjustable Flexible Disk Pack Assembly

The assembly includes a pack A of thin flexible magnetic disks including 10 data disks a, and is so adjustable by screws b as to accurately locate the data disks a with respect to a fixed reference surface c and with respect to a vertically movable magnetic head d.

The assembly includes a central hub e and a compression cap on top of the hub e, fixed together by the screws b. The flexible disk pack A includes 17 dummy disks g, the 10 data disks a thereon and 9 dummy disks h on the top of the pack A. An elastomer ring j is imbedded in a horizontal annular surface of hub e, and a ring k of noncompressive material rests on top of ring j.

Disks g, a and h are positioned as the pack A on ring k, and a spacer m is positioned between each consecutive pair of the disks in the pack A. Disks g, a and h may each, for example, be 0.003 inch thick, and each of the spacers m may, for example, be 0.007 inch thick.

Hub e is positioned on top of arbor n, with the reference surface c on the bottom of hub e in contact with a horizontal annular surface p on arbor n. Arbor n has a vertically extending drive pin q extending into an opening r in hub e, for providing a driving connection between hub e and arbor n. A hold screw s is provided for holding hub e fixed on arbor n.
