Abstract

The illustrated ink jet gutter can be fabricated with more accuracy than the conventional tubes and also provides an ink mist shield. An upper block 1 is formed with pedestals 2 spaced as required and holes 3 are drilled at 45 degrees. Thereafter the pedestals 2 and holes 3 are cut away so as to leave semicircular channels. A second block 4 is formed with an ink collection duct 5 and intersecting vertical, countersunk holes 6. The formed blocks 1 and 4 are then assembled so that the semicircular channels are aligned with corresponding collection holes 6. A vacuum line can be attached to the collection duct 5.

Ink Jet Gutter and Mist Shield

The assembly also serves as an ink mist shield to prevent the mist from spreading to deflection plates and sensors. If a residual charge exists on the mist droplets, a plated electrode can be added to the surface 7 of the mist shield facing the paper to attract the mist which can then be bled off.
