Phase Shifter

A contactless 360 degree continuous phase shifter employs a configuration of coils which may be rotated to provide different degrees of phase shift.

Coil A1 B1, coil A2 B2 and coil A3 B3 are disposed orthogonally to each other and normally are not coupled electromagnetically. A paddle 10 couples coil A3 B3 to the other two coils, as the paddle is turned through 360 degrees of rotation. Coil A1 B1 carries current in phase and coil A2 B2 carries current 90 degrees out-of-phase. By rotating the paddle 10, a phase angle of current can be generated in coil A3 B3.
