Treatment of Effluent Hydrogen Sulfide Gas

In certain manufacturing processes, hydrogen sulfide gas results as a by- product or is used in a treatment process and must be disposed of.

The waste gas can be treated to avoid atmospheric contamination by passing the gas through a scrubber containing a ferric chloride solution. The hydrogen sulfide is totally absorbed and the reaction is driven to completion by the formation of amorphous, insoluble free sulfur, ferrous salts and hydrochloric acid.
