Liquid Level Sensor Component

This is a thermistor component for use as a liquid level detector. The component comprises a standard thermistor element 2 which is surrounded and protected by a cylinder 4 of thermally conductive material, such as epoxy. A distributed resistance 6 such as resistance wire or band is entwined around epoxy 4.

Ohmic connections 10 and 14 to the thermistor element 2 and resistance wire 6 provide for its connection as a resistance bridge per se, or a portion of a more complex resistance bridge. The thermally conductive material and the distributed resistance about the material greatly improves the sensitivity of the detector to changes in liquid levels.

This component is especially useful as a replacement for the termistor- resistor side of the bridge resistor described by C. J. Robbins in "Integrated Circuit Module Liquid Level Detector, IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin, Vol. 16, No. 12, May 1974, pages 4110-11. It may also form one or two resistors of a four-resistor fall bridge circuit.
