Manufacturing Film Pockets

Film pockets are used for the exposure of circuit boards, for the manufacture of moulded etching components, and, in particular, for masks in integrated semiconductor technology. To this end two films or photographic plates with the same pattern are exposed and developed.

The two films are combined in the form of a film pocket by being placed on top of each other, are accurately aligned and fixed. The object to be exposed with the aid of this film pocket is placed between the two films, being exposed through them.

The problem of accurately aligning the top and the bottom film in relation to each other is solved as follows.

First of all, one film is exposed and developed with the pattern. The developed and the undeveloped film are combined by spacers to form a pocket. The unexposed film of the pocket is exposed through the previously exposed film and developed. Thus it is ensured that the two films are automatically accurately aligned and fixed to each other.
