Impact Printer

This impact printer prints simultaneously on both sides f1 and f2 of a form F using a printer hammer H1 opposite a platen P1, and a second print hammer H2 disposed opposite a second platen P2.

A font of type S1 is disposed between form F and hammer H1, and a second font of type S2 is disposed between hammer H2 and form F. The fonts S1 and S2 may be carried by type bars. Ribbon R1 is disposed adjacent side f2 of form F, and ribbon R2 is disposed adjacent the opposite side f1 of form F. Therefore, when hammer H1 is moved toward platen P1, printing is accomplished on the side f2 of form F: while printing is accomplished on the opposite side f1 of form F when hammer H2 is moved toward platen P2.

The impact printer accomplishes simultaneous two-sided printing on the two sides of the form F and doubles the lines per minute print speed, decreasing paper usage by one half in comparison with printers printing only on one side of a piece of paper.

In lieu of fastening the slugs S1 and S2 on type bars. these slugs may be in the form of trains and moveable about oval tracks while being unconnected from each other.
