Paper Insertion Aid for Typewriter

The device shown allows overlapping paper to be handled, by permitting an operator to insert a second document into a typewriter while the first document is being typed on. The apparatus shown is designed for insertion of sheets of paper from the left side of the typewriter.

This device includes a bottom paper plate 1 with a formed left edge, a top paper plate 2, and a registration edge 3. The formed left edge of the bottom paper plate 1 allows a second sheet to be slid under the first sheet. This technique relies on the stiffness of the first sheet to hold the left edge of the document in the same plane as the flat portion of the bottom paper plate 1, so that the second sheet can be pushed along the formed flap 9 of the bottom paper plate up under the first document. The second document is restrained by a wait station gate 4.

In operation, a first sheet is inserted and contacts the wait station gate 4. The wait station gate 4 is then disengaged, and the first sheet dropped down onto the registration gate 6 and registration of the first sheet is accomplished. Rear feed rolls 7 are then engaged to drive the first sheet. The second sheet is then inserted behind the first sheet as the first sheet is being typed on.

The second sheet is then dropped by the wait station gate 4 down on the registration gate 6 and registered against registration edge 3.
