The device shown separates paper and envelopes into different stacks, without a mechanism or electronic knowledge of which item is being ejected.

As shown in Fig. 1, envelopes 1 being narrow, feed out the top of the feeder 5 and fall into stacker 3. They are restrained by wall 2 as shown in Fig. 2 and 3. Paper 4, however, bridges the wall 2 and feeds over and stacks, as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6.
