Abstract

This storage cell comprises two cross-connected transistors T1 and T2, with a word line (WL) provided for the cell connected to the common emitters of the transistors T1 and T2. Each of the bases of these two transistors are connected to the emitter of an input/output transistor T3 or T4. The base of each of the input/output transistors T3 and T4 is connected to a separate bit line B1 or B0, and their collectors are interconnected to the sense line.

Associative Memory Cell

This storage cell comprises two cross-connected transistors T1 and T2, with a word line (WL) provided for the cell connected to the common emitters of the transistors T1 and T2. Each of the bases of these two transistors are connected to the emitter of an input/output transistor T3 or T4. The base of each of the input/output transistors T3 and T4 is connected to a separate bit line B1 or B0, and their collectors are interconnected to the sense line.

This storage cell can be associatively searched. To carry out an associative search, one of the bit lines B1 or B0 is lowered. This causes transistor T3 or T4 connected to the bit line not lowered to conduct, to apply a no-match input to the sense line if it is connected to the conducting one of the two transistors T1 or T2. This action also causes transistor T3 or T4 to be in a nonconducting state, to apply a match signal to the sense line if it is connected to the nonconducting one of the two cross-connected transistors T1 and T2.

This storage cell can be embodied into high density monolithic circuits and is operated by using a low-current cell.
