Crimping Tool

This tool provides an improved universal handle frame for removable wire crimping and terminal modules.

Frame 1 supports frontal module submembers 2-3 and is the wire crimping module. Member 2 includes a wire crimper 4 and insulation crimper 5. When assembled, movement of handle 6 in the direction A causes anvil member 3 to move upwardly within frame 1, so that its faces 7 and 8, in coaction with crimpers 4 and 5, respectively, provide the crimping action. The serrated, cam-shaped, and pivotable disc sector 9 is selectively positioned to adjust the height of the insulation crimper 5.

Each of the replaceable and interchangeable front modules 2-3 is designed to accommodate one of the various nominal wire size ranges, e.g., ranges #10 - #12, #14 - #16, #18 - #20, #22 - #26, #28 - #32 of AWG.

Backplate 10 houses a slide 11, biased to a predetermined location by spring
12. Different types of slides may be employed, depending upon the size of wire. The slide 11 guides and holds the terminal during crimping, reducing the possibility of deforming the terminal.
